Structure

Harmonised UTI guidance defines a structure beginning with the LEI of the generating entity followed by a unique value, subject to a maximum length.

Generation Responsibility

Jurisdictions set out a hierarchy for which party generates the UTI. Industry best practice encourages agreeing responsibility bilaterally to avoid both sides generating.

UTI Through the Lifecycle

Most lifecycle events keep the original UTI; some events, depending on regime guidance, result in a new transaction and therefore a new UTI. Inconsistent treatment between counterparties is a common source of pairing breaks.
